The concept of floating structures that allow you to live on water is inherently enthralling!<\/p>\n<p>But some architects have gone above and beyond the idea of a house on water, floating structures now include supermarkets, hospitals and even prisons!<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the most unique floating structures around the world.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Floating Prison, New York City, USA<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11252 size-full\" title=\"Floating Architecture: Unique Floating Structures Around The World\" src=\"https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Prison-New-York-City-USA-en.jpg\" alt=\"Floating Prison, New York City, USA\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Prison-New-York-City-USA-en.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Prison-New-York-City-USA-en-275x275.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Prison-New-York-City-USA-en-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest operational prison ship in the world, the barge was built as a result of overcrowding prisons in 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>The prison has been in operation since 1992, and in many respects, it is not that different from other conventional prisons.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Vernon C. Bain Center\u00a0, also known as The Boat, is designed to house inmates from medium to maximum-security, the structure being on water provides even more security.<\/p>\n<p>The building constitutes of 16 dormitories and 100 cells, it even has basketball courts in a \u00a0caged in recreational area.<\/p>\n<h2>Floating Supermarket, Southern India<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11254 size-full\" title=\"Floating Architecture: Unique Floating Structures Around The World\" src=\"https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Supermarket-Southern-India-en.jpg\" alt=\"Floating Supermarket, Southern India\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Supermarket-Southern-India-en.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Supermarket-Southern-India-en-275x275.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Supermarket-Southern-India-en-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Instead of building a supermarket on every island in Kuttanad archipelago, Consumerfed, the federation which manages the government-backed retail cooperative societies decided to build this floating supermarket.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The floating Triveni Superstore in Kundara is a huge boat crafted of anti-corrosive, steel-reinforced cement.<\/p>\n<p>It is essentially a traveling department store that sells everything from groceries to household appliances!<\/p>\n<p>The stores can only accommodate 20 people at a time, including the floating market&#8217;s salespersons and the driver.<\/p>\n<p>The first of its kind in India, the market alert villagers beforehand of their planned arrival.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Floating Island, Seoul, South Korea<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11251 size-full\" title=\"Floating Architecture: Unique Floating Structures Around The World\" src=\"https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Island-Seoul-South-Korea-en.jpg\" alt=\"Floating Island, Seoul, South Korea\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Island-Seoul-South-Korea-en.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Island-Seoul-South-Korea-en-275x275.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-Island-Seoul-South-Korea-en-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Built in The Han river which divides Seoul in half, the complex consists of three structures, representing the three stages of a blooming flower: seed, bud, and blossom.<\/p>\n<p>The island like buildings house shops, restaurants, and a number of venue spaces that host festivals and exhibitions throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>Floating island is a collaboration between H Architecture in New York and Haeahn Architecture in Seoul. It is fully relocatable. It serves as portable exhibition hall and conference space.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by DeltaSync and Public Domain Architecten, this pavilion is remarkable not only because of its shape, but also because of its climate change resilient, innovative, sustainable and flexible qualities.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Seeds of change, The Floating Garden, Bristol<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11255 size-full\" title=\"Floating Architecture: Unique Floating Structures Around The World\" src=\"https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Seeds-of-change-The-Floating-Garden-Bristol-en.jpg\" alt=\"Seeds of change, The Floating Garden, Bristol\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Seeds-of-change-The-Floating-Garden-Bristol-en.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Seeds-of-change-The-Floating-Garden-Bristol-en-275x275.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Seeds-of-change-The-Floating-Garden-Bristol-en-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Seeds of Change&#8217; is the overall title of an ongoing ballast seed garden project from Brazilian artist Maria Thereza Alves.<\/p>\n<p>Working with the University of Bristol Botanic Garden and Bristol City Council, the artist have utilized a disused concrete barge and created a permanent Ballast Seed Garden on Bristol&#8217;s Floating Harbor.<\/p>\n<p>The Floating Garden was designed by German designer Gitta Gschwendtner who worked closely with the artist to create a contemplative architectural space to walk, sit and observe the plants.<\/p>\n<p>The irrigation and lighting systems are powered by solar panels, and the garden\u2019s frame, seating, and pathway are made from sustainable grown pine.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Floating skate ramp, Lake Tahoe, USA<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11253 size-full\" title=\"Floating Architecture: Unique Floating Structures Around The World\" src=\"https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-skate-ramp-Lake-Tahoe-USA-en.jpg\" alt=\"Floating skate ramp, Lake Tahoe, USA\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-skate-ramp-Lake-Tahoe-USA-en.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-skate-ramp-Lake-Tahoe-USA-en-275x275.jpg 275w, https:\/\/www.weetas.com\/article\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Floating-skate-ramp-Lake-Tahoe-USA-en-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After having skated on pretty much every surface imaginable, when\u00a0Visit California asked pro skateboarder Bob Burnquist in 2013 to build something new , he came up with the idea of a floating skate ramp.<\/p>\n<p>Lake Tahoe is famous for its extraordinary clear blue water, what a wonderful place to skate!
