The joint venture comprised of Qatari construction giant AlJaber Engineer LLC (JEC) and leading Turkish construction firm Tekfen Construction, has been awarded the construction contract for Al Thumama Stadium.
The announcement was made by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), the organization responsible for delivering the stadiums and infrastructure required for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB) was previously announced as the Design & Construction Supervision Consultant for Al Thumama Stadium in 2015.
The 40,000-seat Al Thumama Stadium is being constructed for 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. It is the seventh stadium for which the main construction contract has been announced.
The stadium is located only minutes away from Hamad International Airport. It sits in the center of Doha’s urban development. Scheduled for completion in 2020, it will host FIFA World Cup matches up to the quarter-final stage.
E Hassan Al Thawadi, secretary general of the world cup delivery committee, said: “The stadium in Al Thumama is located in one of the most rapidly developing areas of Doha. Once ready, the stadium and its surrounding precinct will not only become one of the capital’s central sporting arenas but will also serve the local community as a central community destination.”
