Atkins, the UK-based leading international engineering and consultancy services company, has been awarded a 5-year $6.8m contract to provide the engineering planning, design and supervision for Khazaen Economic City mega project, the new city to be developed in the Sultanate of Oman.
In his comment on the contract award, Engineer Kalat Al Balushi, the chairman of Khazaen Economic City expressed his delight to award the city’s consultancy contract to Atkins, adding that Atkins will develop both the concept and detailed master plans for the project within the upcoming six months.
On the other hand, Marco Malpiedi, the managing director for Atkins Oman expressed the company’s pride to be chosen as the leading consultant of the huge economic city project, adding that Atkins is looking forward to contribute its knowledge and expertise to Khazaen Economic City.
Situated in the northern half of Oman, Khazaen Economic City’s planned site spans 51 square kilometers of space. The first phase of the megaproject will comprise a dry port, a logistics area, and a truck terminal. The new economic city is planned to be the new center of the logistics industry of Oman upon its completion.
The awarded contract includes a clause that allows the possible extension of the deal by 24 more months.
