Bahrain government awarded contracts worth 1.1 billion dollars for establishing the new terminal in Bahrain’s International Airport.
The airport upon the completion of the new terminal and the other development projects will be able to handle about 14 million passengers.
The contracts include five agreements signed on the sidelines of Bahrain International Air Show which took place at Sakhir Airbase.
Kamal Bin Ahmed Bin Mohamed, The Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, pointed out that the contract for constructing the airport’s new terminal, the new services building, and the new aircraft bay, has been awarded to a joint venture between Arabtec Company and the Turkish TAV Construction.
He added that the contract for establishing the passengers’ airbridges has been awarded to the Chinese CIMC Group. The baggage handling system was awarded to Vanderlande which is a Dutch specialist.
Moreover, a contract was signed with US-based L3 Communications for the supply of security screening equipment and another one was signed with a Finnish group named Kone for horizontal and vertical transfer systems.
Mohamed Albinfalah, CEO of Bahrain Airport Company, mentioned that all development projects are taking place in line with the highest standards of security, quality, safety, technology, and environmental standards.
He mentioned also that the current developments are the largest infrastructure project for Bahrain International Airport in the last 30 years.
