Bahrain delivers 2,070 housing services to women since 2010

Bahrain Ministry of Housing has delivered 2,070 housing services to women since 2010, according to the director of the ministry’s Housing Policies and Strategic Planning division, Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.

The 2,070 services delivered to women applicants include the allocation of 379 housing units, 766 ownership flats, 143 temporary housing requests, and 377 applications through the social housing programme (Mazaya).

In addition, the ministry has also considered financing of 190 purchase requests, 117 repairing requests, 79 building requests, and 19 housing plots.

Shaikha Al Khalifa explained that Bahraini women’s housing demands are being treated fairly, as the ministry looks to allocate more housing services in constant coordination with the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), which is led by the SCW president and wife of HM the King, HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa.

Shaikha Al Khalifa also indicated that the current 5,210 women housing requests on the waiting lists will be fulfilled according to the seniority criteria.

She added that the Ministry’s Housing Committee has received 335 urgent housing needs submitted by women due to their material or social circumstances over the past two years. She noted that the panel had responded to 201 cases after studying them, further affirming that women’s housing demands would always be a priority for the Bahrain government.

Housing services for Bahraini women have been boosted by the addition of a fifth category thanks to which temporary housing has been provided to divorced, abandoned, or widowed women without children, in addition to orphaned single women.
