Construction on the mixed-use district Uptown Dubai, formerly known as Burj2020 District, has started, with work on Phase 1 scheduled to begin by the end of the year.
Located adjacent to Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Uptown Dubai includes two super-tall towers and a retail district. The project was designed by international architects Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill from Chicago with the master plan developed by WATG.
With an area of over 186,000 square meters, Phase 1 features 200 retail and F&B outlets, a central entertainment plaza, and several luxury hotels. In total, Uptown Dubai, a LEED Gold certified development, will boast around 3,000 residences.
Residential properties will be available for off-plan sales during the first quarter of 2018. Furthermore, the development will include a 28-metre main podium in the middle of a two-level central plaza, set to be larger than New York Times Square, and a retail mall that will have direct access to the two towers.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority (DMCC), said: “Uptown Dubai is a world-class smart district unlike anything on the market, innovatively designed to deliver a new beat for business, and a truly urban destination for people to live, work and thrive.
“Two super-tall towers and a vibrant central plaza will anchor the 10 million sq/ft development, creating an ultra-connected, energizing district designed to meet Dubai’s next wave of growth,” he added.
