Nakheel Properties, the Dubai-based leading development company, has awarded the $1.6bn construction contract for its Deira Mall project to United Engineering Construction Company (UNEC).
Deira Mall will be the largest mall in the UAE in terms of leasable space; it comes as a part of Nakheel’s major expansion plan for its malls that will take its total leasable area to more than 17 million square feet.
The mall will span over 4.5 million square feet of leasable space that will comprise more than 1,000 shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment outlets in addition to a multi-storey car park that includes 8,400 parking slots that spans 3.8 million square feet.
Deira Mall will be the center of Deira Central, Nakheel’s community situated on Deira Islands containing 50 residential and hotel towers, retail spaces, mosques and other facilities that span more than nine million square feet of space.
The project is one of two mega retail developments that are being constructed on Deira Islands, with the other being Deira Islands Night Souk, which will be the world’s largest nightmarket upon its completion within this year. Night Souk will comprise 5,300 shops in addition to 100 quayside cafes and restaurants.
