UAE Sheikh Mohammed launches Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai has launched the first un-fenced desert conservation reserve in Dubai. Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve will feature an outdoor theater, a plant nursery, a biosphere center and more.

The Marmoom Reserve will be the largest sustainable environment project in the UAE. The Marmoom Biosphere Center will be specifically dedicated to studying sustainable development. It will serve as a center for sustainable ecotourism, providing a source for specialized ecosystem management practices to the whole region.

Spreading over an area of more than 20 hectares, the reserve will feature 10 observation decks shaped like the Arabian Oryx heads. Including one observation deck built at a higher altitude to provide panoramic views over the reserve.

The Reserve will be home to the largest plant nursery in the UAE, covering an area of 40 hectares. The nursery will serve as a training and educational center for researchers and academics. And also home to a Bird’s Nest platform which will be located at the edge of the park’s water bodies.

Several platforms will be set up to provide a meditation and relaxation space. As well as a yoga practice hall, shaded by a cover designed as a sand dune, which will also offer a spectacular view of the desert.
