Egis Group, one of the leading France-based infrastructure development companies, has been awarded the project management consultancy contract for the second and the third stages of Etihad Rail project by the project’s eponymous developer.
In their comment on the contract award, Egis Group explained that the Etihad Rail contract comes as a part of its plan to expand in the UAE market and the Middle Eastern market overall.
As per the contract, Egis will supervise the engineering consultant responsible for the preliminary design and construction, the design and build contractors, along with other third parties.
Etihad Rail’s current network spans across 10000 kilometers with more than 40 railway facilities, and it comprises both freight and passenger lines. The network is planned to be expanded in stage 2 by more than 600 kilometers while stage 3 will be expanded by 250 kilometers. The network’s expansions are planned to be completed before 2024 and they will link the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to UAE and the Sultanate of Oman.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first project for Egis in the region, as the group has worked before on the design engineering services for Bluewaters Ground Rapid Transit System.
