Ferry boats between the two nations of Qatar and Bahrain will commence mid next year.
This will cut the travel time to 1.5-2.5 hours, instead of the regular 4.5 hour trip through Saudi Arabia.
Qatari Gulf Ferry and Sora Marine Services will launch the service together to encourage tourism between the two countries.
The ferry boats will travel from Ruwais to Muharraqq and vice versa.
They will be able to carry commercial and private cars as well as passengers.
The service will provide two return trips daily, stopping at Ruwais port in Qatar and Khalifa BIN Salman Port in Bahrain.
These new ferry boats are the first of their kind in the Arab Gulf.
Therefore, Tourists will be able to see the countries they are visiting in a new light.
One dedicated ferry boat that can carry 50 cars and 100 passengers is currently available.
If the service is successful, it will then extend to include trips to and from the UAE.
