King Abdul-Aziz Airport expansion project to be completed by mid-2017

Works on the new upgraded airport in Jeddah, King Abdul-Aziz International Airport, is due completion by mid-2017 according to the General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA).

The construction and the testing phases of the airport will be completed by the end of 2016 according to Sulaiman Al Hamdan, the director general of GACA. The airport expansion will help increase the number of passengers from 28 million to 45 million by 2020.

In another respect, Al Hamdan laid the foundation stone for a new building to be built in the support area next to the airport.

The construction of this facility comes as a part of Saudi Airlines expansion plan which includes fleet development, expansion of flight network, and installing the latest information technology. The company hopes increasing its flights to 1,000 a day.
