King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, Ithra , was named among TIME’s 2018 list of the World’s 100 Greatest Places.
The center in Dhahran was inaugurated by King Salman in 2016. It is an all-purpose cultural center considered the first incubator of knowledge of its kind in Saudi Arabia.
Ithra is a joint initiative between the Saudi Commission for Heritage and Saudi Aramco Oil Company. It aims to promote and preserve the Kingdom’s cultural heritage.
Prince Sultan bin Salman, head of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, has praised the center for making it into the world’s greatest places.
He said the achievement reflects a global appreciation for the efforts made by Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of his highness King Salman, to protect The culture and heritage of the Kingdom. The prince also commended the center’s role in promoting the culture of the Kingdom and exerting a marvelous effort in preserving this culture using modern tools.
