The General Authority of Sports in Saudi Arabia has awarded the modification works contract of King Fahd International Stadium to the Italian Schiattarella Associati.
The Italian-based architect will supervise the refurbishment of a large section of the stadium that occupies about 50,000 spectators.
The firm owners, Amedeo and Andrea Schiattarella, said that their proposal covered all functional requirements and introduced new shapes and volumes that will enhance the value of the stadium as well as integrate into its existing architecture.
The new refurbishments include an artificial hill at the base of the stadium linking between ground and concourse-level bleachers.
Moreover, 1,000 parking spaces will be added in addition to access areas to the west stand.
It’s worth mentioning that the stadium lies in the eastern part of Riyadh with a total land area of 500 thousand square meters.
King Fahd International Stadium isn’t the first project of Schiattarella Associati in GCC. The company has worked before on the Celebration Hall of Riyadh, Addirriyah Art Centre, and Qatar Archaeological Museum.
