The construction of Qiddiya city project, the mega entertainment destination spanning more than 334 square kilometers, will start within the current year, according to the most recent announcement made by the CEO of Qiddiya Mike Reininger. Reninger explained that the planning and designing phases of the city have been finished last year and will be executed in 2019.
With an area twice as large as Walt Disney World Orlando in Florida, Qiddiya is situated 40 kilometers away from Riyadh. The city is meant to be the world’s top entertainment tourism destination upon its completion.
Qiddiya comes as a major component of the long-term strategy known as Saudi Vision 2030 that aims at developing and growing the non-petroleum economic sectors of the Saudi kingdom. The mega project is funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund; it was launched in April 2018.
It is worth mentioning that Qiddiya is not the only major project the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is developing as a part of its Saudi Vision 2030. In October 2017, the kingdom has launched Neom City, a mega futuristic destination spanning 10,000 square miles that will be the first transnational city in the region.
