Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, the renowned India-based hotel and resorts developer, has announced that it is going to open its first project in Makkah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In his comment on the announcement during Arabian Hotel Investment Conference 2018, Suma Venkatesh, the executive vice president for real estate and development of Taj Hotels explained that the developer has chosen Makkah because India has one of the largest Muslim populations in the entire world. Venkatesh added that Taj Hotels plans to expand its projects later on to Jeddah, Riyadh and the other major cities of Saudi Arabia.
Taj Hotels will develop the new hotel in partnership with the Saudi Arabia-based Umm Al Qura Development and Construction Company; it will be situated in King Abdul Aziz Road project nearby the Grand Mosque and it is planned to comprise 340 rooms in addition to high-end facilities and restaurants. The project is planned to be completed in January 2023.
On the other hand, the new hotel will be managed by the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) which also manages another of Taj Hotels’ project, Taj Dubai in Dubai, UAE.
