Tourism infrastructure investment in Bahrain exceeds 13 billion dollars

Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) announced that the tourism infrastructure investment in Bahrain has exceeded 13 billion dollars, which cover around 14 tourism investment projects as a part of Bahrain’s infrastructure development plan.

In his comment, Dr. Simon Galpin, the managing director of Bahrain’s Economic Development Board explained that the tourism sector is one of the major strong contributors to the Bahrain economy as the total number of tourists who visited Bahrain during the first three quarters of 2017 have exceeded 8.5 million visitors which is a significant figure considering the Bahrain’s population of 1.5 million people. He added that the tourism sector contributes 6.5% of the kingdom’s GDP, a percentage that is expected to grow further in the near future.

The tourism infrastructure investment in Bahrain included a 1 billion dollar modernization program applied in Bahrain International Airport to increase its passenger capacity by 2020 to be 14 million passengers, five-star and four-star hotels and resorts, along with Dilmuna Mall and other shopping malls and complexes.
