January 17, 2017 | Tourism Here’s what your 2017 Bucket List should look like Now that the new year is upon us, you’ve probably started planning your 2017 bucket list. Every year, you promise yourself to travel further away, indulge in different cultures, and see more of the world. This year, however, you won’t need to travel so far. The GCC countries have a lot more to them than dazzling skyscrapers. They are home to adrenaline-inducing adventures that you can’t miss out on. Each GCC state presents an opportunity for you to form a 2017 bucket list like no other. However, not every item on the bucket list is meant to push your physical limits. A few are there to soothe your senses and stimulate your mind. To help you better plan out your 2017 bucket list, we have put together a list of places and activities you have to try out in the GCC. Gravity Indoor Skydiving, Zallaq Free falling in one of the world’s tallest wind tunnels in Bahrain is an unforgettable bucket list experience. The tunnel is 12 meters high and ‘flying’ instructors will give you a personalized briefing on how to maneuver your body. You don’t need to jump out of a plane to experience an anti-gravitational thrill! Skydive Dubai If however, you would like to jump out of a plane, there is no place better than Dubai. At Skydive Dubai, you can take that leap of faith at 13,000 feet above the Palm Jumeirah. The company also offers courses for anyone wanting to skydive solo at the Desert Campus DZ. Once you hit 120 miles per hour with the Dubai skyline beneath you, you’ll be able to cross another heart-pumping experience off your 2017 bucket list. Mirror House, Kuwait City The next item on our 2017 bucket list does not involve flying or jumping out of a plane, but it is definitely an interesting one. Lidia Qattan, the artist behind Mirror House, welcomes guest into her home with home-made ginger tea and biscuits. Lidia gives guests a guided tour of the private museum and explains the history behind the glass artwork featured throughout. Make sure you book an appointment before visiting. Desert Camping The desert in the GCC is a spectacular feature, with sandy dunes, the vibrant wildlife, and the opportunity to gaze up at the star-filled sky. Qatar is an all-time favorite when it comes to camping. This is because there are several areas that offer serenity and scenery, along with beautiful sandy beaches. If you’re planning a camping trip to Qatar, check out the Ras Abrouq peninsula and Inland Sea (Khor al Adaid). Edge of the World, Riyadh Imagine standing at the edge of the world, looking down at an endless plain. The incredible cliff formation at the Acacia Valley is a part of the Tuwaiq Escarpment that extends about 700 km. The spectacular view from up above can only be reached by 4×4 vehicles through rocky and sandy roads. Once you’ve reached the top, however, you’ll be glad you added this place to your 2017 bucket list. Majlis al-Jin, Selma Plateau Oman, the culturally rich and serenely beautiful country, has a surprise in store for adrenaline lovers. About 100 km from Muscat sits the second largest known cave chamber. The only way down the cave is by abseiling through one of three entrances. From down below, three beams of light make their way to the chamber floor. The cave has also been a popular destination for base jumpers.
